Piano Lessons
Piano instruction includes a 30-minute lesson with a 15-minute lab. Lessons are individual instruction with emphasis on theory, technique and improvisation. A variety of methods and materials are used, tailored to a student's individual needs. Most students are ready for piano instruction around age 8, but many can start as early as age 6. Adult students can begin piano study with any level of previous music experience.
Lab activities include computer games, listening, composing, music history, composers, instruments, music science and seasonal topics. Parents are welcome to observe lessons and encouraged to help students complete lab assignments.
Students may perform in recitals 3 times per year as well as participate in MMTA (Minnesota Music Teachers Association) testing and contests. Students often perform duets or ensembles with family members, friends or Ms. Donovan.
